Coverage follows the individual vehicle
Jaguar and Land Rover build records can contain a wealth of identity and equipment detail, but coverage is not identical for every model, year or market. The free lookup checks the individual vehicle rather than making a broad promise based on the badge.
For a UK car, you can begin with the registration; for other supported markets, use the VIN. Either way, the provider’s returned record supplies the vehicle identity. The number plate’s age identifier is not asked to do a job it was never designed for.
What a JLR build record may contain
Available fields can include model and derivative information, production details, engine and transmission descriptions, paint, interior trim, delivery-market data and a substantial equipment list.

Why some rows look a little different
On certain returned records, the provider places the same long text in both the factory-code and description fields. Repeating that phrase twice would make the table harder to scan without adding useful information.
When the two normalised values are identical, the report uses sequential display numbers while preserving the description. Genuine manufacturer codes remain untouched. It is a presentation fix, not a rewrite of the underlying factory record.
Use the record to check originality
Compare the listed wheels, exterior finish, trim, seating, roof, towing equipment, audio and driver-assistance features with the vehicle. JLR models attract plenty of accessories and upgrades, so ask for documentation where the current car differs from the factory specification.
The build record cannot establish present mechanical condition or ownership history. Combine it with service evidence, diagnostics, history checks and a physical inspection—particularly on a complex vehicle where one neglected feature can become an expensive hobby.
